The Latvian Language Agency is the state regulatory authority. It is supervised by Minister of Education and Science.
The Agency promotes consolidation of the status and sustainable development of the Latvian language, which is the official state language of the Republic of Latvia and an official language of the European Union.
The Latvian Language Agency was founded on 1 July, 2009. It appeared during the reorganization of the State Language Agency and the National Agency for the Latvian Language Training.
The Latvian Language Agency implements the state language policy, which is formulated in the Guidelines of the State Language Policy for 2005 - 2014 and the State Language Policy Programme for 2006 - 2010.
